Nail-Polish Makers Settle Suit Involving Toluene in Products
WSJ July 7, 1993 pg. B4 SAN FRANCISCO - Four nail-polish manufacturers have settled lawsuits over use of the chemical toluene in their products. The four companies are Revlon Inc., a New York unit of MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc.; Pavion Ltd., Nyack, N.Y.; Jonel, a Chicago division of Barristo Ltd.; and Artmatic USA Cosmetlcs, New York. The companies have agreed to stop using toluene in their products and to end distribution of toluene-containing nail polish in California. Nine other cosmetic companies previously reached similar settlements. California put toluene on a list of regulated chemicals in 1992 because of links to birth defects. * * *
