EPA Slaps Tenessee Gas Pipeline Co. With Fine
PIPELINE & GAS JOURNAL September 1994 pg. 14 Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co., a subsidiary of Tenneco, Inc. has agreed to pay a $6.4 million fine to settle allegations by the Environmental Protection Agency regarfing polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) disposal violations in a nine state area. The fine stems from alleged PCB use and disposal violations at compressor stations along the piprline route. Both EPA and Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. officials said the PCB's were in lubricating fluids used in compressors. The PCB contamination was discovered in the late 1980's by Tennessee Gas when the company analysed samplings in response to an EPA survey. The company had stopped using the lubricants in question in the mid1970's.
