The following is printed in a mailer from the gas company. It is contained in a black square ink border. Before you read it, though, let's pretend that you feel as if you have the flu, you know as you have been made to believe that natural gas is safe and you are smelling some gas. You get this mailer and begin reading. Now read within the square box:

SAFETY MESSAGES: Natural gas has a very distinctive smell on purpose! It is our way of letting you know that something may be wrong. HEED THE WARNING and CALL US! BUT keep yourself and your family safe by remembering these few rules:

* Do not use the telephone, switch a light on or off, or light a match.

* If the odor is strong, open doors and windows for ventilation.

* Get everyone out of the house and call from a neighbor's house for us to come and investigate the situation.

LEARN THE SIGNS OF CARBON MONOXIDE
*Headaches
*Dizziness
*Nausea
*Weakness
*Vision or Hearing impairment:

If you should notice these symptoms and suspect Carbon Monoxide you should:
*Get Fresh air Immediately
*Seek Medical Help
*Contact a Qualified Professional or Contact Us

So you have read the mailer and you use your neighbors phone to call the gas company. You tell them that you smell gas in your home and have been feeling all of the symptoms listed for carbon monoxide poisoning.

A gas co. rep. comes to your home and tells you that they cannot locate a leak, that gas is safe and smelling a little of the odor is normal. They then check for carbon monoxide. There is a zero reading because carbon monoxide happens after the gas has burned in the furnace. They do not tell you that last bit of information, though, nor is it stated in the mailer. You now understand that you do not have co poisoning and smelling the odor in the gas is normal and safe.

Your health gets worse because you are suffering from natural gas poisoning not carbon monoxide poisoning but you have no clue in the world of that because you trust what you have read and been told, you do not own a computer or have any other reason to question it.

You then choose to go to the doctor. Just think of all of the diagnoses the doctor can choose from to diagnose you with. Why not choose the one with the highest priced tests and medication.

Getting back to the gas company mailer. Let's demand the recognition of natural gas poisoning and the information to know the difference between it and carbon monoxide poisoning. Please write to your reps. for me. This is very serious! The information that we so deserve can save lives.

Thanks!
Roxanne
